American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13‑week travel contract on a Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience with trach and vent exposure preferred.
Requirements- Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- Current NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience required
- Experience in a relevant setting within the last 1 year required
- Drip titration experience required
- Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; facility is willing to train on vents for candidates who are open to learning
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years in the position's specialty
- Former permanent staff at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
- 28‑bed Med/Surg PCU/Tele unit (5N) with a neuro trauma focus
- Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain‑Barré, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA patients, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, dementia, as well as trauma/ortho injuries including hematomas, bleeds, falls on anticoagulants, and MVA/farm accidents
- Night shift nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:5–6 depending on acuity; day shift ratio is 1:4–5
- Nursing assistants are available (day 1:9, night 1:12)
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
- RT equipment in use includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2
- Telemetry monitoring is centrally located in a separate area
- Charting in Cerner (facility is transitioning to Epic)
- 12‑hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM (1900–0730)
- Self‑scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage typically required for 2–3 winter holidays and every other holiday otherwise
- Floating required to sister MS units across 6 specialties including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
- No on‑call or standby requirement
- 13‑week contract
- First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
- Orientation consists of 1 general shift and 1 shift with a preceptor
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
- Travel duos cannot be guaranteed the same shifts
