Department Details: Marshfield Medical Center is seeking a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The Surgical Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is a skilled member of the allied health care team who is qualified both academically and clinically to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Surgical Physician Assistant works within a cooperative unit, utilizing team effort with health care providers, co-workers, and the public to provide positive patient interaction.
Position Details:
- 4, 10‑hour shifts
- Rotate between inpatient rounding, outpatient visits, consults/call, and surgery.
- On average 2 surgeries per day
Job Summary:
- Provide advanced nursing care to patients with neurological conditions requiring surgical intervention.
- Assess, order, and interpret diagnostic tests (CT, MRI, labs).
- Assist in surgical planning and treatment plans in collaboration with neurosurgeons.
- Manage pre‑ and post‑operative care, including wound management and neurological monitoring.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice such as lumbar punctures, suturing, incision and drainage.
- Monitor patients in ICU, step‑down, and outpatient settings.
- Participate in surgical rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Educate patients and families about procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
- Assist in care coordination and discharge planning.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
- Provide on‑call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a master’s, post‑master’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program (Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing).
- Preferred: master’s degree in nursing if licensing prior to August 1, 1995.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in neurosurgery, neurology, or critical care.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
- Current DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
- State Controlled Substance License if required by State.
- National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP‑BC) or related ACNP‑BC.
- Other certifications approved by a market executive leader as needed.
- Maintain required competencies and certifications per privilege form; privileging documents supersede this description.
