Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on a post-surgical unit at a Level II trauma center, requiring at least 1 year of acute care nursing experience.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting, Level II trauma center
  • Post-surgical unit (2EW) serving Ortho, Urology, GYN/ONC, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT, Plastics, and GI patients; acute medical patients with short anticipated length of stay may also be admitted
  • 15-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 (days, 0700–1900) and 1:5–6 (nights, 1900–0730); lower ratios on nights without a nursing assistant
  • Telemetry monitoring system is GE; strips are run and monitored by remote technicians
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin; occasionally Nitro, Cardizem, and insulin
  • Respiratory support available on unit; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow Oxygen Therapy — no vents
  • EMR:
    Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
Requirements
  • Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
  • Current BLS certification (AHA)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of acute care nursing experience
  • 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the position's specialty within the last 3 years
Additional Information
  • Charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes a patient assignment; house supervisor is also available on all shifts
  • Nursing assistants are present on days (0630–1900); RNs carry a lower patient ratio on nights without a nursing assistant
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling is used to the best of the unit's ability dependent on staffing
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1–2 days of precepted floor orientation based on skills
  • Scrubs may be any color; must be clean and professional
  • Candidates who have previously worked at this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date; hospital approval is also required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and are eligible for the position under a reduced travel pay rate
