The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The NA provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The NA provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, meal preparation and dining needs, emotional and spiritual needs.

The NA administers delegated tasks and treatments, records vital statistics and other basic health information, collects non‑invasive biological specimens from patients as needed, performs clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient health care, prepares patient treatment areas for use, prepares and cleans medical equipment, disposes of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy, cleans patient living areas or treatment rooms, and when necessary provides one‑on‑one care to patients.

• Provide assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating, while supporting emotional and spiritual needs
• Record vital statistics, blood glucose levels, and other basic health information
• Assist with patient transfers and ambulation
• Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient health care
• Prepare and clean patient treatment areas, living areas, and medical equipment
• Dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy

• High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred
• Obtain and subsequently maintain required department specific competencies and certifications
• If working in North Dakota (ND) or Minnesota (MN) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be on the NA Registry through the North Dakota Dept. of Health or the Minnesota Dept. of Health within four months from date of hire
• If working in Wisconsin, must be on the Wisconsin Nurse Aid Registry with current work eligibility
