Description:
This position provides care to patients on a telemetry unit.
The unit has 29 beds and features nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 during days and 1:6 during nights.
Common patient diagnoses include abdominal surgeries, ear/nose/throat surgeries, complex wounds, and general medical conditions.
Nurses are required to titrate drips, including heparin, and infrequently insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin.
Telemetry technicians monitor patient rhythms and notify nurses of any concerns.
Nurses have access to a monitor to view patient rhythms.
Charge nurses take smaller patient assignments.
Nurse aides are available with ratios of 1:8 during days and 1:14 during nights.
Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, vapotherm, and occasional tracheostomy support; however, no ventilators are present.
Scheduling does not guarantee block scheduling, but efforts are made to accommodate block schedules, especially for night shifts.
Weekend and holiday requirements include every other weekend and every other holiday.
There is no call requirement, but floating to other medical-surgical units may occur if the unit is overstaffed.
Scrubs of any color are permitted.
Unit-specific training includes computer training and shadowing.
All clinicians must clock in and out during their shifts.
This position requires a valid nursing license and relevant certifications.
