Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac/Telemetry stepdown unit position requiring 2+ years of recent cardiac/telemetry experience and ACLS/BLS certification.

Details
  • Acute care stepdown unit in a Level 2 trauma facility, 29-bed Cardiac/Tele/Dialysis department
  • Patient population includes cardiac medical and surgical cases: post cath lab (stent, pacemaker, ICD, watchman, mitral clip, TAVR), post cardiac surgery (CABG, valve replacements), Afib, chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, syncope, and bradycardia with temporary pacemakers
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 through 2300 and 1:5-6 overnight
  • Nurse aide ratios are 1:10 on days, 1:10-12 on evenings, and 1:15 after 2300
  • Charge RN takes a modified patient assignment
  • RNs manage titratable drips including Nitroglycerin, Heparin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Bumex, and Dobutamine (no vasopressors)
  • Unit has 24/7 central telemetry monitoring, so RNs are not required to read their own strips
  • RT provides 24/7 support for nebulizers, inhalers, CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapotherm; RNs manage incentive spirometry
  • Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
  • 12-hour evening shifts from 1100 to 2300, with an option for 36-hour weeks
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • No standby or call requirements unless picking up an extra shift
  • Floating required as needed based on unit census
  • No self-scheduling; block scheduling used when it meets unit needs, with a Fri/Sat/Sun option available
Requirements
  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in a busy acute hospital setting
  • Experience with post-procedural cath lab patients required
  • Experience managing TR band compression devices required
  • Experience managing chest pain patients required
  • Experience with post cardiac surgical patients required
  • 2 professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor
Additional Information
  • Responsible for titrating cardiac drips and managing post-procedural and post-surgical cardiac patients
  • Onboarding includes 1 shift of HR orientation and 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
  • No scrubs provided and no specific scrub color required
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • Candidates who previously worked at the facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
