RN - L&D

Profession: Registered Nurse

Shift: 12-hour Nights

Hours per Shift: 12 hours

Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Labor and Delivery

License: Active RN License required

Certifications: BLS, NRP

Must-Have:

  • Experience with high-risk labor and delivery patients.
  • Ability to float between labor and delivery and antepartum/mother-baby unit as needed.
  • Proficiency in admitting, preparing, and recovering patients in the labor and delivery area.
  • Experience titrating drips such as insulin and oxytocin.

Description:

The unit is comprised of a total of 7 labor and delivery beds.

There are 2 operating room suites available for C-sections.

The unit also features 17 postpartum beds.

Approximately 950-1000 births occur each year.

The team adheres to established guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios.

Common diagnoses include preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placenta previa, preterm labor, and premature rupture of membranes.

Registered Nurses are responsible for both mother and newborn recovery.

Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments to assist during deliveries.

OB providers are available in-house around the clock, with maternal-fetal medicine specialists on call.

Anesthesia services are also available 24/7.There are OB technicians on each shift to assist with patient care.

If patients are on telemetry, staff monitors read the strips.

The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Corometric EFM integrated with Cerner/Fetalink.

Shift scheduling is flexible, with options for block scheduling.

Weekend work is required every third weekend, while holidays are scheduled as needed.

There is no on-call or standby requirement for this role.

Registered Nurses may be asked to float as patient sitters or to the NICU if comfortable and trained.

The dress code includes provided hospital scrubs in purple.

Unit-specific orientation consists of three days of training, including one day focused on hospital policies.
