Wood County Norwood Health Center is looking for a skilled maintenance technician. The position involves performing general mechanical and maintenance duties to ensure the facility operates safely and complies with state and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Operate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment; use Building Automation System; cut, thread, assemble and lay pipe; install, repair, and maintain HVAC fixtures; diagnose and repair boilers and water heaters; repair and replace circulation pumps.
  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment; test and replace circuits; troubleshoot and correct defective switches, receptacles, lighting, ballasts, electric motors, and other wiring; perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Perform plumbing maintenance and repairs such as replacement or repair of faulty drains, faucets, toilets, pumps, pipe; unclog drains; install and repair kitchen appliances.
  • Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance including repairs to doors, locks, windows, roofs, and other building parts.
  • Construct, rebuild, and repair equipment and facilities including various wood and metal structures, masonry work, equipment building systems, and furniture; prepare surfaces for painting and varnishing and apply surface coverings as required.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical security systems, electronic door openers, and fire alarm system. Install and terminate telephone and data lines.
  • Grounds maintenance, including lawn mowing, tree trimming, and snow removal; keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice to ensure safety.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machines such as saws, drill presses, presses and hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; keep tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
  • Use a computer to monitor HVAC, receive work requests, check and send emails, catalog keys, search for parts, and enter and track data.
  • Assure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Follow safety policies of the County and perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
  • Serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood County Core Values and the Wood County Code of Conduct.
  • Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules to ensure efficient operation of building systems and prevent deterioration of the physical condition of the buildings.
  • Perform routine maintenance of vehicles and small engines.
  • Be on‑call 24 hours a day as required.
  • Assist nursing staff with agitated patients in emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of welding and carpentry skills preferred.
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
  • Basic everyday living skills needed; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; basic computer skills.
  • Reading, writing, and mathematics skills.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license, with ability to maintain while employed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working in healthcare preferred.
Required Tools and Equipment
  • Truck (trailer); snow blower; broom; salt spreader; riding and push lawn mowers; weed trimmers.
  • Power tools: table saw, miter saw, band saw, pipe threader, drill press, grinder, etc.
  • Hand tools: hammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Measuring tools: micrometers, vernier calipers, voltage meters, rulers, etc.
  • Chainsaw and any other tools or equipment necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
