Job Description

The Department of Public Safety at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a Police Officer position.

• Performs a wide range of police duties, enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect lives and property within the university community.
• Patrols and regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
• Arrests suspects when necessary.
• Escorts funds for various university units.
• Provides first aid treatment.
• Works well with students, staff, and law enforcement agencies in the area.
• Interviews suspects, witnesses, and victims to develop evidence and secure information for court or University proceedings.
• Operates in a 24/7 operational environment, available for all assigned shifts, day and night, weekends, holidays, and times when the University is closed.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude; passes extensive background check.
• Physical strength and agility to apprehend suspects.
• Passes written test, physical agility test, medical physical (including drug test), and psychological examination.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver's License.

• Successful completion of 60 semester college credit hours and/or certified as a police officer in the State of Tennessee.
• Certification documents or documentation indicating capability to obtain Tennessee Police Officer certification.

Minimum hiring rate: $19.02 per hour for non-certified, $22.00 per hour for certified (Market Range 06). Salary commensurate with education and experience.
