Job Description

Custodial Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a custodian. The normal work schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, but shift subject to change (40 hours per week). This is a full‑time position with benefits.

• Perform a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations to create a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors in the building.
• Pull trash and recycle.
• Clean and restock restrooms and general building cleaning.
• Change light bulbs.
• Floor maintenance including stripping and waxing floors, dust mopping, wet mopping, scrubbing, buffing, vacuuming, and extracting carpets.
• Maintain sufficient custodial supplies for the assigned area(s).
• Report any safety concerns and/or maintenance issues to immediate supervisor.
• Tear down tables and chairs after special events; sweep and clean bleachers after ball games.
• Assist in mowing duties as required.
• Custodians may be moved to another building at any time.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively; interact positively with co‑workers.
• Physical condition conducive to performance of labor tasks (including bending, reaching overhead, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, climbing ladders to a height of twenty feet, and operating power washer, buffers, vacuums, shampoo machines, and scrubbers).
• Good work and attendance record.
• Normal work schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, but shift subject to change (40 hours per week).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and knowledge of custodial equipment, operation and safety.
• Experience and knowledge in the use and safety of cleaning chemicals.
