Overview

The Storekeeper position is a countywide classification and may be assigned to various departments throughout the County. The current assignment is in the Services Group at the Juvenile Hall Unit in Martinez, CA. The Probation Department emphasizes integrity, equity, and excellence in the ethical application of the law, with a mission centered on justice and rehabilitation to support positive outcomes for individuals and families.

The job involves supporting operations by managing inventory and supplies, processing orders and deliveries, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring materials are available as needed. Duties may vary by department assignment. This is a permanent, full-time Storekeeper position.

Responsibilities
  • Managing inventory flow, including ordering, receiving, and inspecting supplies to maintain minimum stock levels.
  • Maintaining inventory records and analyzing usage, including identifying shortages and trends.
  • Coordinating inventory status and procurement actions with supervisors and suppliers under approved or open contracts.
  • Supporting kitchen, food, and emergency supply tracking, including monitoring perishable items and emergency meals for Juvenile Hall operations.
  • Maintaining storeroom areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Required Qualifications
  • License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out-of-state licenses accepted during application process.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of full-time (or equivalent) store keeping experience including duties of stock clerk, material handler, shipper/receiver, stockroom clerk, warehouse worker, or central supply work.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Familiarity with public sector, institutional, or regulated environments (government, healthcare, secure facilities).
  • Experience supporting inventory planning and coordination with a Supervisor.
  • Advanced experience conducting scheduled inventories of supplies (e.g., food items, chemicals, regulated materials).
  • Experience using spreadsheets or ERP/inventory systems to track issuances and expirations beyond basic data entry.
  • Advanced experience preparing quotes, requisitions, or purchasing documentation with fiscal or procurement staff.

  • Departmental Interview:
    Hiring team will contact referred candidates to schedule interviews.
