Field Technician / Erosion & Sedimentation Inspector
Bluewater Engineering Services is seeking a motivated and dependable Field Technician to assist with erosion and sediment control inspections, environmental monitoring, GPS data collection, and utility locating on construction projects throughout Georgia and South Carolina. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, is comfortable interacting with contractors and clients, and has strong attention to detail. Previous experience in construction, environmental services, surveying, engineering, or inspections is helpful but not required.
Training will be provided for qualified candidates. Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments. Duties require the use of personal protective equipment and the ability to perform physically demanding field activities.
- Conduct routine inspections of land-disturbing activities (clearing, grading, and construction) to verify compliance with erosion and sediment control requirements.
- Evaluate compliance with approved Erosion, Sedimentation & Pollution Control (ES&PC) Plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
- Prepare and submit daily inspection reports, maintain detailed records, and document site conditions through photographs and field notes.
- Perform turbidity sampling and environmental monitoring activities.
- Serve as a liaison between regulatory agencies, developers, engineers, and contractors, providing guidance on compliance requirements and corrective actions.
- Collect and document field data using GPS/GNSS equipment for mapping, locating, and utility verification.
- Assist project managers and engineers with field investigations and data collection.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
- Perform other related field duties as assigned.
- Ability to read maps, plans, and construction drawings.
- Basic computer and mobile device skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn applicable environmental and construction regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse uneven or undeveloped terrain on active construction sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding field activities.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Experience in construction, environmental compliance, surveying, engineering, inspections, landscaping, utilities, or a related field is preferred but not required.
