Chess Instructor

Location: Martinez, CA.

Schedule: Monday–Friday 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm.

• Competitive Pay: $55–$75 per class (typical class ~1 hour 30 minutes including prep, instruction, and post‑class tasks)

  Teach a minimum of 1 class up to a maximum of 5 classes per week. Classes scheduled on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM) at local schools.
• Travel Compensation: Mileage reimbursement for trips over 15 miles one way (30 miles roundtrip).

• Lead interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote sportsmanship.
• Manage classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem‑solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in‑class activities.
• Travel to local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.

• Experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, etc.).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating engaging sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid‑friendly demeanor.
• Desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain concepts age‑appropriately.
• Ability to connect chess problem‑solving to real‑life problem‑solving.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability weekday afternoons, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, to teach 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to implementing school safety protocols; reliable record and strict adherence to safety and school policies.
• Strong punctuality and time‑management skills.

• Resume: Detail relevant experience with children in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings, including teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience.
• Questionnaire: Complete required questionnaire about interest in the role, experience with children, and qualifications to teach chess.

Chess Wizards Instructors receive full training and ongoing support, and access to curriculum and materials. Free chess classes and opportunities for advancement are also available.

Location Requirement: Position based in Martinez, CA. Relocation assistance is not provided. Candidates must reside in the area or be willing to relocate.
