Environmental Engineer
Central San, a forward-thinking public utility, is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the Asset Management Group within the Planning and Optimization Division. The Senior Engineer will supervise the Asset Management workgroup, including one Lead GIS Analyst and two GIS Analysts. This position plays a key role in advancing Central San’s enterprise asset management strategy by improving data quality, strengthening cross-division collaboration, and aligning technology, systems, and staff expertise to support organization-wide, data-driven decision making.
This position oversees Central San’s Asset Management Program, including lifecycle planning, risk-based prioritization, and integration of asset data systems to support data-driven decisions.
The Senior Engineer will provide leadership and technical oversight to a multidisciplinary team, supervising projects that span multiple programs and divisions. The role demands independent judgment, initiative, and coordination of complex engineering and management tasks.
Central San is advancing its condition assessment for treatment plant and collection system, asset handover, BIM integration, and digital transformation efforts, and seeks a leader with both technical expertise and strategic vision to guide these initiatives.
Responsibilities- Lead the Condition Assessment Program for the treatment plant and collection system
- Enhance and transform the Asset Management Program into a fully integrated 3D environment supporting asset tracking, condition modeling, and long-term capital planning
- Integrate intelligent and machine learning tools to improve predictive maintenance and asset performance analytics
- Oversee development of the Asset Handover Tool to ensure seamless data integration across planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in engineering is desirable.
ExperienceTwo years of full-time experience comparable to that of an Associate Engineer in the District including one year of experience in supervising professional, technical, and/or trade personnel.
Licenses and CertificationsPossession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer issued by the State of California in civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering.

The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process. Human Resources shall determine the examination steps to be used for this recruitment. The steps may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, practical examination, application screening, and/or oral board examination. One or more of these steps may be used and in any order. At the end of the testing process, candidates passing all of the examination steps will have their names placed on an eligibility list.
The list is valid for six months and may be extended up to an additional six months at the request of the hiring department. The list may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the examination process. All applicants will be notified of the results of the review process.
Successful candidates not currently employed in regular status by the District must pass a pre-employment physical to be considered for appointment.
