Systems Administrator

Salary: $84,538.06 – $ annually.

The Superior Court of California County of Contra Costa is opening recruitment for a Systems Administrator within the Information Technology Analyst classification.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyze and resolve hardware, software, and application problems, as well as network problems and application access issues.
  • Assist with installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining network, server, and storage devices and file servers and directories.
  • Define technical specifications from user and business requirements; plan projects; manage service level agreements.
  • Develop and employ test plans and test cases; conduct user acceptance testing; communicate technical issues to users and the client community.
  • Work independently on large‑scale, complex infrastructure projects and other court projects.
  • Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain a complex infrastructure environment, including LAN, WAN, VPN, intrusion detection systems, wireless, VoIP, physical servers, virtual servers (VMware), routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
  • Administer servers, desktops, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, smartphones, software deployments, security updates, and patches.
  • Implement leading‑edge technologies to enhance end‑user productivity.
  • Design and implement new solutions and improve the resilience of the current environment.
  • Manage activities that keep the infrastructure performing optimally, including backing up systems, performance tuning, OS upgrades and patches, security and virus protection, and after‑hour monitoring and support.
  • Monitor network security within assigned areas and work with senior staff to resolve issues.
  • Manage user accounts, security, backups, data recovery processes, email, enterprise applications, software updates, and print/file services.
  • Perform any project and priority work assigned by management.
  • Act as a liaison between the Court and vendors.
  • Serve as second‑level support for IT help desk issues involving network, file server and other matters.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, including tools, processes, procedures, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Provide technical and end‑user computer training.
  • Prepare technical documentation and procedural manuals.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

The individual appointed must be able to work well with others, handle multiple demands and deadlines, maintain a professional attitude, possess excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, and work in a confidential environment. Regular and punctual attendance is essential.

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a closely related field + 2 years of experience in systems analysis, engineering, programming, database administration/analysis, operating systems, network analysis/management, or a similar field in a multi‑platform environment; OR
  • Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems or a closely related field + 4 years of experience in the same areas; OR
  • Two (2) years’ experience as an Information Systems Technician II with this Court.

Relevant full‑time experience may substitute for either degree requirement on a year‑for‑year basis. Completion of an approved computer science certification program may substitute for one year of a degree requirement.

Licenses and Certifications

Cisco CCNA, VMware, Microsoft associate, CISSP certifications are preferred but not required.

Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of fingerprinting and a criminal record background check is required prior to appointment.

Employees may be required to travel to other court locations. Possession of a valid California driver’s license or the ability to travel independently is required. All court business drivers must certify a valid license and required automobile insurance.

Convictions

Felony and misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying. The Court will assess the nature and gravity of the offense, the time elapsed, and the nature of the job duties.

Employment Eligibility

All persons hired after November 6, 1986, must present original documents proving identity and U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
