Crane Operator​/Rigger Mechanic

Position Overview

Crane Operator/Rigger Mechanic at PBF Energy’s Martinez Refinery, California. Qualified large or small hydraulic NCCCO certified crane operators are sought to support MTAC activities across the refinery under the direction of the Crane & Rigging Team Leader.

• Operate and maintain heavy equipment.
• Operate equipment for maintenance activities safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally sound manner, ensuring all procedures, practices, standards, and rules are followed.
• Select appropriate crane or heavy equipment for the maintenance activity.
• Inspect, clean, service, and maintain equipment.
• Complete assembly and disassembly including extending jibs or dead sections, changing blocks, cables, and multi‑ or single‑part lines.
• Select, inspect, and prepare slings, spreaders, shackles, and hooks for lifts.
• Instruct and lead other employees in setting up rigging.
• Operate medium equipment such as forklifts, semi‑trucks, manlifts, backhoes, loaders, and bundle carriers.

• Work Schedule:
  
  Participate in callout/standby coverage and occasional altered schedules during maintenance outages and turnarounds.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Ability to lift 50 pounds; climb ladders; navigate stairs.
• Work Conditions:
  At heights, outdoors in inclement weather; occasional use of a respirator, Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), or Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must have an active TWIC card or be able to obtain one (information at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Rigger or military equivalent.
• NCCCO TLL and TSS or ability to obtain TSS within the probationary period.
• Commercial Class A or B license.
• Must obtain NCCCO RIG‑I, TTR‑I, and SGP within probationary period.

• Previous refinery or chemical plant experience.
• Basic computer skills and experience working with Windows‑based systems.
• Experience operating medium equipment such as forklifts and manlifts.
• Experience operating earth‑moving equipment such as backhoes and loaders.

• Hourly pay rate of $57.54, based on qualification requirements in the CBA.
