Mechanical Engineer – Powertrain (EV & ICE Vehicles)
About the OpportunityOur client, a leading manufacturer of electric and gas-powered vehicles, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support a range of growth initiatives across both electric (EV) and internal combustion (ICE) platforms
.
This is a hands‑on role focused on vehicle powertrain systems
, offering the opportunity to work on critical components such as motors, engines, transmissions, and related subsystems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in one or more areas of vehicle mechanical architecture (e.g., motors, engines, CVTs, transaxles)
- Own the development of mechanical specifications, validation plans, and component requirements
- Lead and contribute to engineering processes including DFMEA, DVP&R, risk analysis, and engineering change management
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external suppliers to support product development and implementation
- Drive projects forward by identifying risks, removing roadblocks, and ensuring on-time execution
- Support testing, validation, and continuous improvement efforts to ensure reliability and performance of designs
- Act as a key engineering contact for troubleshooting and resolving product issues
, including customer-facing concerns - Mentor junior engineers, designers, and technicians
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and long-term product strategy
- Ensure alignment with regulatory and industry standards
- Lead or support cross-functionally project teams to meet program milestones
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g.,
8D, 9-step problem solving
)
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical or automotive engineering preferred
- Experience with powertrain systems (electric or ICE) is a strong plus
- Strong mechanical design, analysis, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with design validation, testing, and reliability engineering
- Ability to manage projects and work effectively across cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., Solid Works) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to mentor team members and contribute to engineering best practices
- Proven ability to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Balances technical decisions with business impact and practical considerations
- Work on cutting‑edge electric and gas-powered vehicle technologies
