Job SummaryThe E-Beam Systems Electrical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of our electron beam equipment. This role requires a deep understanding of high-voltage systems, vacuum technology, precision analog/digital controls, and industrial automation. The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on problem‑solver who ensures maximum equipment uptime and process stability through rigorous electrical engineering practices and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities 1. System Maintenance & Reliability- Develop, execute, and continuously improve preventative maintenance (PM) schedules for all E-Beam subsystems.
- Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical and electro‑mechanical system failures.
- Repair and replace faulty components, including high‑voltage power supplies, lens/deflection amplifiers, vacuum pump controllers, PLC modules, and sensors.
- Maintain meticulous records of all maintenance activities, failures, and solutions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Maintain and troubleshoot high‑voltage power supplies for the electron guns, and filament circuits.
- Safely perform high‑voltage DC measurements and discharge high‑energy capacitors using established LOTO procedures.
- Maintain and troubleshoot the vacuum system, including roughing pumps, turbo‑molecular pumps, pressure gauges (Pirani, Cold Cathode), and pneumatic valves.
- Support the cooling water system, ensuring proper flow, temperature, and resistivity of de‑ionized coolant.
- Collaborate with mechanical and vacuum technicians on complex, multi‑disciplinary issues.
- Troubleshoot and program PLCs (e.g., Siemens) and HMIs for equipment control and sequencing.
- Diagnose and repair issues with safety interlock circuits (door switches, water flow, vacuum level).
- Utilize schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic to diagnose control system faults.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on E‑Beam safety, including high‑voltage and X‑ray hazards.
- Rigorously enforce and adhere to Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure all work complies with company safety policies and industry regulations.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent military training or an Associate's degree with significant direct experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands‑on experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex capital equipment in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
- Technical
Skills: - Essential: Proven experience with high‑voltage DC systems (>1kV), including safety protocols, measurement, and troubleshooting.
- Essential: Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC ladder logic.
- Essential: Proficiency with diagnostic tools:
Oscilloscope, DMM, High‑Voltage Probe, Insulation Resistance Tester. - Highly Desirable: Experience with vacuum systems, or electron beam technology.
- Highly Desirable: Understanding of analog and digital control systems, including servo amplifiers and power supplies.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to interact with operators, management, and other engineers.
- Direct hands‑on experience with E‑Beam or similar systems (e.g., ion implanters, SEM/TEM, X‑ray tubes).
- Experience with vacuum system maintenance.
- Knowledge of industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
- Must be able to work in a cleanroom or manufacturing environment, which may require wearing appropriate PPE (bunny suit, safety glasses, etc.).
