Position: Commissioning Manager (Power Generation)

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for large-scale power generation projects. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for developing and executing commissioning strategies, overseeing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and successful transition of facilities from construction to operations.

The ideal candidate brings extensive commissioning and startup experience in power generation environments, strong technical expertise, and a proven ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Project Execution
  • Lead all commissioning and startup activities throughout the project lifecycle, serving as the senior commissioning authority on site.
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, execution plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams responsible for utility, process, electrical, controls, safety, fire and gas, and auxiliary systems commissioning.
  • Establish system boundaries, turnover plans, commissioning scopes, and operational readiness milestones.
  • Drive project performance through proactive planning, risk identification, and mitigation of schedule impacts.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Construction Teams, Owners, Vendors, and Subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise during design reviews, operability reviews, construction meetings, and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate owner interfaces and facilitate smooth handover of completed systems.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations through regular reports and leadership meetings.
Commissioning & Startup Management
  • Develop, review, and approve commissioning procedures, test plans, startup protocols, and turnover documentation.
  • Oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, preservation, maintenance, and system turnover processes.
  • Coordinate and supervise testing activities, evaluate results, and ensure systems meet performance and operational requirements.
  • Manage commissioning databases, documentation control, drawing updates, and turnover package completion.
  • Ensure availability of spare parts, consumables, and operational support required for initial startup.
Safety & Quality Excellence
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with OSHA, ANSI, environmental, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, field audits, LOTO activities, and critical milestone reviews.
  • Promote best practices in quality, reliability, operational readiness, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and professional conduct across office and field operations.
  • Monitor commissioning budgets, track expenditures, and forecast project costs.
  • Review and approve commissioning-related labor charges, requisitions, and resource allocations.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development for commissioning personnel.
  • Coordinate additional field support resources as required to meet project objectives.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Commissioning and Startup (CSU) experience, including prior experience in a senior commissioning leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning methodologies, startup planning, system turnover, and operational readiness processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams in complex industrial environments.
  • Experience developing commissioning schedules, budgets, procedures, and execution plans.
  • Strong understanding of power industry safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical documentation, engineering drawings, procedures, and specifications.
Preferred
  • 10+ years of experience supporting power generation projects.
  • Experience with Combined Cycle, Simple Cycle, or other thermal power generation facilities.
  • Knowledge of process technologies, flow measurement systems, engineering calculations, and plant operations.
  • Experience with PLC-based and PC-based control systems, automation platforms, and commissioning software tools.
  • Familiarity with engineering management systems, documentation control processes, and digital project delivery tools.
