Summary
The Designer I is responsible for developing basic pipeline design drawings using AutoCAD and GIS-based tools, following standard design procedures and templates. They will prepare design packages including plan drawings, typical tie-in details, bills of material, as-built documentation, and construction exhibits. They will also collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develop basic pipeline design drawings using AutoCAD and GIS-based tools, following standard design procedures and templates.
- Support design efforts by gathering project information and incorporating inputs from land, environmental, and permitting teams.
- Conduct basic field walks to understand site conditions, right-of-way constraints, and project scope.
- Prepare design packages including plan drawings, typical tie-in details, bills of material, as-built documentation, and construction exhibits.
- Respond to redlines and design markups, updating plans and documents as directed by senior designers or design management.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
- Maintain organized design files, ensuring documentation and version control are accurate and up to date within document management systems.
- Support permit application submittals by providing basic design exhibits and required attachments.
- Participate in project meetings primarily as a support resource to gather direction and communicate design progress.
- Learn and apply basic knowledge of industry and company standards (DOT part 192, internal design and construction manual, standard operating procedures, etc.) under guidance from senior designers and design management.
- Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
- Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
- Introductory knowledge of AutoCAD, SAP, and all Microsoft products
- Basic GIS comprehension
- Basic understanding of natural gas pipeline systems and typical components
- Understanding of plan and profile drawings, symbology, scales, and drawing standards
- Awareness of environmental, right-of-way, and permitting considerations
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines, with supervision
- Willingness to learn and accept feedback
- Attention to detail in design and documentation
- Ability to follow procedures and design standards
- Ability to interpret utility maps, survey drawings, and basic topographic information
- High school diploma or equivalent AND
- At least three (3) years of experience in natural gas distribution design.
- -OR-
- Associate’s degree in engineering technology or related field AND
- At least one (1) year of experience in natural gas distribution design or related field.
- AutoCAD certification preferred.
- Remain stationary at a designated workspace for 50-75% of the time.
- Move self in different positions to accomplish various tasks throughout the office space.
- Adjust or move objects up to 20pounds.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.
- Communicate with others to accurately exchange information and ideas.
- Observe details at close range.
- Minimum travel for work-related purposes is expected 25-50%, which may include some overnight visits to locations and industry events.
- This is a full-time exempt salaried position.
