Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Must possess current or temporary Radiography License as required by state board where services will be provided.
  • Must be Nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
  • Current or temporary Radiography License and National certification per state requirements below:
  • MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians;
    Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire.
  • OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health;
    Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire.
  • PA: No state licensure required;
    Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 12 months of hire.
  • WV: Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board;
    Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 6 months of hire.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Rotates in all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
  • Performs image procedures based on assessment of patient status, service request, and imaging protocols; monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
  • Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in image delivery and archiving.
  • Selects exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and minimizing repeat exposures.
  • Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging to optimize procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
  • Assesses patient needs and provides imaging related to comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and provides support accordingly.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays for imaging procedure per procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining procedure and answering questions.
  • Promotes team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to promote efficient high quality and cost effective patient care.
  • Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Completes all in-services and competencies by required date and applies knowledge gained.
  • Positions patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction to radiology students in the clinical setting per policy of Radiology program and accrediting bodies.
  • Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within national occupational guidelines; monitored by Radiation Safety and use of dosimeter.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
