Position Summary
AKER by MAAX is seeking a Team Lead to support daily production operations in our fiberglass backing and lamination department. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating production activities, maintaining safety and quality standards, coaching team members, and ensuring production goals are achieved.
The ideal candidate leads by example, works alongside the production team, and promotes a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesShift Planning, Staffing, and Start-Up
- Review the shift production plan, model mix, staffing, material readiness, equipment status, and quality alerts with the supervisor.
- Assign and balance trained employees among rolling, material preparation, reinforcement placement, handling, inspection, and other Back Line stations.
- Conduct a start-of-shift safety and quality check, including ventilation, guards, emergency equipment access, hoses, tools, housekeeping, and required PPE.
- Verify that correct resin, fiberglass, reinforcement materials, inserts, and model-specific instructions are available and properly identified.
- Coordinate line start-up, changeovers, breaks, relief coverage, and recovery from minor delays while protecting cure windows and standard work.
- Demonstrate correct rolling technique, coverage pattern, pressure, overlap, detail work, and defect recognition; coach employees at the point of work.
- Monitor wet-out, laminate uniformity, reinforcement placement, air-pocket removal, edge coverage, and other in-process acceptance criteria.
- Stop or hold work when a condition could create an injury, chemical exposure, equipment damage, or nonconforming product; escape to supervisor, EHS, maintenance, or quality as appropriate.
- Respond to shortages, blocked flow, equipment interruptions, ventilation alarms, spill conditions, or material abnormalities within authorized procedures.
- Ensure production counts, scrap, rework, downtime, material usage, and quality checks are recorded accurately and turned in on time.
- Train and qualify employees on standardized work; document cross-training and identify coverage gaps.
- Lead housekeeping, tool care, workstation reset, waste segregation, and shift handoff.
- Perform Back Line production work as needed while maintaining awareness of the entire area's safety, quality, and flow.
- Provide work direction and coaching but refer formal discipline, hiring, termination, pay, and policy decisions to management unless expressly delegated.
- Ability to follow standardized work, visual work instructions, production schedules, safety rules, and quality specifications.
- Ability to identify defects, communicate abnormalities promptly, and document work accurately.
- Dependable attendance and ability to work the assigned shift, overtime, and schedule changes based on production needs.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team-oriented, paced manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to train others, balance work, recognize quality defects, address routine disruptions, and accelerate appropriately.
- Basic ability to complete production, downtime, scrap, training, and quality documentation
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience leading production teams.
- Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Repetitive reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting.
- Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing facility with moving equipment and production machinery.
- Exposure to fiberglass, resin, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
