Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Epic EMR proficiency.
Responsibilities- Med/Surg unit (5th Floor) in an acute care hospital setting with 35–42 beds (9 semi-private and 17 private rooms)
- Wide variety of patient diagnoses including altered mental status, cardiac (non-active chest pain), renal, cancer, overflow CVA, TBI, appendectomy, chest tubes, and wound care
- Patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Telemetry is present and monitored remotely; nurses are not required to read strips but must have basic arrhythmia knowledge and ability to recognize fatal rhythms
- IV drips limited to Heparin and Protonix; no titrating or cardiac drips
- Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow; RT available 24/7
- Charting via Epic EMR
- Omnicell pharmacy available in-house 24/7; no IV team on unit
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7;
Charge Nurse coverage 24/7 - PCTs available on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- Floating may be required to other Med/Surg units; no floating to ED or Behavioral Health
- 13-week contract
- Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
- Navy blue scrubs required; navy or white jacket; white or navy undershirt; natural hair color only; excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered
- COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
- Travelers who have reached one cumulative year of experience within the WVU system must also take a 2-year break before returning
- Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Basic arrhythmia recognition skills required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
