Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring a WV or compact RN license, ACLS/BLS certifications, and at least 2 years of experience.

• Acute care telemetry unit (PCU/Tele) in a hospital setting, spanning two floors with a combined 42 beds (private and semi-private rooms)
• Patient population includes elevated troponin, active chest pain, pre/post cardiac catheterization with and without intervention, post-STEMI (after ICU recovery), NSTEMI, peritoneal dialysis, pacemakers, and occasional post-surgical and oncology overflow patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on both day and night shifts
• PCT support on the unit, though staffing levels may vary
• Philips cardiac monitors in use; nurses are required to read and document rhythm strips every 4 hours in the patient chart
• Common drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin (per protocol), and Nitroglycerin — all set-rate only
• Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow oxygen managed by RT
• Hospitalist, RT, and pharmacy are all in-house 24/7; pharmacy is also present on the unit during daytime hours
• Omnicell medication dispensing system in use; no IV team on site
• Charting is done via Epic; telemetry monitor data flows directly into Epic
• 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), three days per week
• Rotating weekends (every other weekend; days: Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
• Floating is rare but may occur to ICU overflow tele or Ortho/Med-Surg
• Opportunities to precept and serve as charge nurse
• 13-week contract
• Nurses are responsible for reading, interpreting, and documenting cardiac rhythm strips every 4 hours directly in the patient chart
• Unit orientation is 1–2 days depending on experience
• Charge nurse coverage varies; charge nurses may carry a full patient assignment
• Scrub color is navy blue; jacket must be navy or white; undershirt must be white or navy; hair must be a natural color (no pink, purple, or blue); distracting tattoos must be covered
• Scheduling requests are entered via Kronos at least 2 weeks in advance, planned 4 weeks at a time; block scheduling may be accommodated if included in the contract
• Holidays: the unit director attempts to avoid scheduling travelers on holidays, but coverage may still be required based on unit needs
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being eligible to reapply
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; a 2-year break is required before returning
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

• Telemetry or PCU nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• EKG testing required for this unit — candidates must be prepared to complete pass/fail EKG testing
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested via facility exemption form
• Candidate's driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
