Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, EPIC proficiency, and ACLS/BLS certifications.

• Acute care telemetry unit in a hospital setting (PCU/Tele) spanning two floors with 20 and 22 beds respectively, including both private and semi-private rooms
• Patient population includes elevated troponin, active chest pain, pre/post cath with and without intervention, post-STEMI (after ICU recovery), NSTEMI, peritoneal dialysis, pacers, occasional post-surgical, and oncology overflow patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 on both day and night shifts
• Drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin (per protocol), Nitroglycerin, and set-rate drips only — no titration
• Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen managed by RT
• Philips cardiac monitors in use with a central monitoring station; telemetry data flows directly into EPIC
• Charting is done in EPIC; telemetry strips are reviewed and documented every 4 hours
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week
• Rotating weekends required (nights: Friday/Saturday rotation)
• 13-week contract
• Responsibilities include administering cardiac drips per protocol, monitoring and documenting telemetry strips every 4 hours, and caring for a mixed cardiac and overflow patient population
• Hospitalist available in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy also available in-house 24/7
• Pharmacy is on the unit during day hours;
  Omnicell is used for medication dispensing
• No IV team on the unit — nurses are responsible for IV access
• PCTs are typically staffed at 3 per floor but may be reduced to 1 per floor at times
• Charge nurse structure varies; some shifts have a floating charge nurse covering both floors, while others assign a charge nurse per floor who also carries a full patient assignment
• Floating is rare but may occur to ICU overflow, Tele, or Ortho/Med-Surg as needed
• Orientation is 1–2 days depending on experience
• Holiday coverage is based on unit needs; the director avoids scheduling travelers on holidays when possible, but coverage may still be required
• Scrub color is navy blue; navy or white jacket permitted; undershirt must be white or navy; natural hair color only (no pink, purple, or blue); distasteful tattoos must be covered
• EKG testing is required for this unit (pass/fail)
• Opportunities for charge nurse and preceptorship roles during the assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
• Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
• EPIC experience required
• BSN not required
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
• Candidates who previously worked at a WVU Medicine facility as a traveler for a cumulative year or more must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
