In accordance with the Hancock County Schools salary schedule for professionals, commensurate with experience and degree level. EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or his or her designee and in accordance with WV State Code § l SA-2-12, State Board Policy 5310.
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform vision and hearing screenings; makes throat and dental inspections; assists at immunization clinics and keeps immunization records; contacts parents concerning health problems of children; visits the home to check on condition of children; refers children to health and social agencies where appropriate; assists in health education programs conducted in the schools; keeps schools supplied with first aid equipment; travels on field trips;
keeps records and makes reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Graduation from a recognized school of nursing.
- Possession of a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of West Virginia and possession of a BSN degree.
- Must possess current valid WV licensure as a registered nurse
- WV Professional Student Support Certificate or Long-term Substitute Permit endorsed for School Nurse
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The school nurse is responsible to the Director of Student Services through the office of the school principal.
Coordinate, plan, and implement the total school health service program, with the Director of Special Education, at the county and school levels, to meet the needs of county studentsDeliver health services at the county and school levelsCollaborate with principals and teachers to facilitate health education at the school level including, but not limited to, nutrition education, basic growth and development, personal hygiene, sexually-transmitted disease prevention, substance abuse prevention and cessation, and safetyUtilize community health care resources and interagency partnerships to enhance school health services for county studentsComply with health and screening regulations required by state law, West Virginia Board of Education policies, and Hancock County Board of Education policiesCoordinate and facilitate vision, hearing, dental, scoliosis, and other screening activities as necessaryAssess immunization status of children entering school for the first time and provide required information for appropriate regulatory agenciesProvide pre-enrollment screening for preschool and kindergarten studentsAssist with pediculosis and scabies screenings, referrals, and recommendations concerning treatment of such.Document health information for appropriate school personnel and health care agencies, providing statistical health information when necessary. Compile health statistics for required reports.Initiate appropriate activities and / or interventions to assure that remedial health problems of students are addressed, while also assisting parents with referrals to appropriate health care providersAct as a resource to special education staff and school administrators with health issues pertaining to individualized education plans and Section 504 plansIdentify and report students at high risk for health problemsProvide for emergency first aid to injured and / or seriously ill students and / or school personnelFollow up on certain accident reports submitted by principals to protect the interests of the countyCounsel with students and parents; confer with…
