American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NIHSS certification.
Details- Acute care setting on the 4 North Ortho/Neuro Med/Surg unit
- 21-bed unit with 7 private and 7 semi-private rooms
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts
- Common diagnoses include total joints, spine surgeries, occipital burr holes, seizures, craniotomies, brain stimulator patients, and traction for hip fractures
- Also supports Med/Surg overflow patients
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Telemetry monitored remotely; travelers must have basic arrhythmia knowledge to recognize fatal rhythms but are not required to read strips
- IV drips limited to Heparin or Protonix (no titrating or cardiac drips)
- Supports patients on BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow
- 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, RT, and Pharmacy support with Omnicell system
- No dedicated IV team (B-Braun)
- Charge Nurse coverage 24/7
- PCTs support nursing staff
- Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (7p-7:30a), 4 shifts per week
- Every other weekend required (nights work Fri/Sat/Sun; days work Sat/Sun)
- Rotating holiday coverage based on unit staffing needs
- Floating required to any Med/Surg unit, excluding ED and Behavioral Health
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- ACLS certification preferred
- BSN not required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Must disclose any background check hits at time of consideration
- Provide direct patient care for orthopedic and neurological patients including post-surgical monitoring and traction care
- Complete floor-specific orientation consisting of one shift with a preceptor along with EPIC and Net Learning Modules
- Scrub color is navy blue with navy or white jacket, white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required and tattoos must be covered
- Attendance history will be discussed during the interview process
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate; no local travelers accepted
- Candidates cannot have worked as a WVU Medicine traveler within the past 2 years
- Travelers are limited to 1 cumulative year within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
