American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NIHSS certification.
Details- Acute care setting on a 21-bed Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro unit (7 private rooms, 7 semi-private)
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts
- Common diagnoses include total joint replacements, spine surgeries, burr holes, seizures, craniotomies, brain stimulator patients, and hip traction cases
- Unit also accepts Med Surg overflow patients
- Utilizes remote telemonitoring for cardiac telemetry; nurses need basic arrhythmia knowledge but are not required to read strips
- IV therapy limited to Heparin and Protonix drips (no titrating or cardiac drips)
- Ventilator support includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support
- No dedicated IV team; B-Braun pumps used
- Charge nurse coverage 24/7 with PCT support
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- Night shift schedule with 3x 12-hour shifts per week (7p-730a)
- Every-other-weekend requirement: nights work Fri/Sat/Sun, days work Sat/Sun
- Rotating holiday coverage based on unit staffing needs
- Open to 36 or 48 hour per week contracts
- Floating required to any Med/Surg unit, excluding ED and Behavioral Health
- 13-week assignment length
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Provide direct patient care for orthopedic and neurological surgical and medical patients
- Unit orientation includes one shift with a preceptor along with Net Learning Modules and EPIC training
- Scrub color is navy blue with navy or white jacket and white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required and tattoos must be covered per dress code
- Strong attendance history is important and may be verified with previous employers
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility per driver's license address
- Previous permanent staff or travelers at this facility must have a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to a cumulative 1 year of work within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
