American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NIHSS certification.

Acute care hospital setting on a 21-bed Med/Surg Ortho/Neuro unit with 7 private and 7 semi-private rooms - Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts
- Common diagnoses include total joint replacements, spine surgeries, occipital burr holes, seizures, craniotomies, brain stimulation, and traction for hips (including Bucks traction) along with general Med/Surg overflow
- Uses telemetry monitoring that is read remotely, though nurses must have basic arrhythmia knowledge and be able to recognize fatal rhythms
- IV drips limited to Heparin or Protonix (no titrating or cardiac drips)
- Supports patients on Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen therapy
- 24/7 in-house support from Charge Nurse, Hospitalist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy (Omnicell)
- PCTs available for nursing assistant support
- No dedicated IV team; uses B-Braun system
- EPIC EMR system used for charting
- 3x12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a), with every other weekend required (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights)
- Rotating holiday coverage based on unit staffing needs
- Floating required to any Med/Surg unit, excluding ED and Behavioral Health
- 13-week assignment length
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Acute care Med/Surg experience required
- Must have basic arrhythmia knowledge and be able to recognize fatal rhythms
- Strong attendance history required
- Provide direct nursing care to orthopedic and neuro patients including post-surgical monitoring, traction management, and general medical-surgical care
- One shift of floor-specific orientation provided with a preceptor, including Net Learning Modules and EPIC training
- Must adhere to unit dress code: navy blue scrubs with navy or white jacket, white or navy undershirt, natural hair color, and tattoos must be covered if excessive or distasteful
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for travel rates
- Previous permanent staff or travelers who completed a full year at this facility must wait 2 years before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to one year of cumulative work within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
