The Quality Inspector is a hands-on individual contributor role that may be assigned to any production shift.
Where the Role Fits in the Manufacturing ProcessThe Quality Inspector supports manufacturing throughout the production process by verifying product and process conformance at plant-defined inspection points. Depending on the assigned area, inspections may occur at incoming material, first-piece, in-process, rework, and final-product stages. Accurate inspection, traceability, containment, and release decisions help prevent defects from moving downstream, reduce avoidable rework or scrap, and provide production with timely quality feedback.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Review the production schedule, work order or traveler, model or part identification, applicable specifications, drawings, visual standards, quality alerts, and special instructions before beginning inspection.
- Confirm that the correct product, material, lot, batch, sample, or production unit is presented at the required inspection point and that required identification and traceability are intact.
- Perform required visual, dimensional, functional, or workmanship inspections at the frequency and locations defined by the applicable control plan, inspection standard, or work instruction.

- Identify abnormal or recurring quality conditions, questionable specifications, damaged inspection equipment, calibration concerns, product mix-ups, or traceability gaps and elevate them promptly.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records using plant-approved travelers, forms, scanners, defect logs, electronic systems, or other required documentation methods.
- Verify that required quality checkpoints, documentation, approvals, and product identification are complete before the product advances to the next manufacturing step or shipment stage.
- Maintain inspection areas, gauges, fixtures, visual standards, samples, tags, and documentation in an orderly condition and protect inspection equipment from damage or unauthorized use.
- Coordinate with production, quality, maintenance, material handling, and supervision as needed to communicate defects, clarify inspection requirements, protect production flow, and support problem resolution.
