This vacancy is for a GS - 0963 - 6/7, Merchant Mariner Safety and Suitability Screener located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, NMC SAFETY and SUITABILITY SCREENING SECTION in MARTINSBURG, West Virginia.

To qualify at the GS-06 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Selecting and applying guidelines to process and evaluate an application for a government document or credential.
- Ability to read and comprehend various guidelines such as U.S Code, U.S. Regulations, agency policies and procedures, etc.
- Utilizing multiple complex, proprietary databases and specialized information systems.
To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Selecting and applying merchant mariner credentialing guidelines-including U.S. Code, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and National Maritime Center (NMC) policies-to process and evaluate applications for Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMCs) and professional endorsements
- Interpreting and applying established regulatory, statutory, and policy guidance to evaluate the basic qualifications and eligibility of applicants.
- Utilizing multiple complex, proprietary databases and specialized information systems unique to the Mariner Credentialing Program to enter data, retrieve records, and track application progress.
- Managing and navigating multiple complex, proprietary databases specific to the Mariner Credentialing Program to audit records, input transactional data, and ensure data integrity.
