The Facilities Safety Manager coordinates daily facilities and safety operations to ensure a safe, clean, and functional learning environment. The position manages a facility inventory/asset database and supports daily campus needs by working closely with faculty, staff, students, and external vendors while helping maintain compliance with safety regulations and institutional policies. This combined departmental position is responsible for database management, supervises team members, supports critical building systems, works shifts at any assigned campus location, supports training initiatives, and accepts duties as assigned.

- Help coordinate maintenance and repair of classrooms, labs, offices, and common areas
- Assist with the facility inventory/asset database management
- Support critical building systems with emphasis on HVAC
- Monitor campus buildings and grounds for cleanliness, functionality, and safety
- Manage work orders and respond to service requests from faculty and staff
- Coordinate room setups for classes, events, and campus activities
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and custodial teams
- Conduct routine building checks to ensure safety and security
- Support compliance with safety standards (OSHA, NFPA, campus policies)
- Assist with emergency preparedness plans (evacuation, lockdown, severe weather)
- Help coordinate safety drills and training for staff and students
- Identify hazards and coordinate corrective actions
- Assist with records for maintenance, inspections, and incident reports
- Provide customer service to students, faculty, and visitors regarding facilities issues
- Assist with scheduling and logistics for campus events
- Support audits, accreditation reviews, and compliance documentation

- Associate’s Degree or higher
- 2–4 years of experience in facilities, security, or campus operations
- Experience with commercial HVAC systems
- Experience working in an educational environment is a plus
- Knowledge of building systems and basic security procedures
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and all other Must have knowledge of NFPA/NBC code and practices.
- Familiarity with campus safety practices and emergency response
- Ability to work closely and compatibly with multiple internal and external partners, including HR, IT, Enrollment Management, academic department/program heads, other key staff, law enforcement, first responders, vendors and contractors.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of Building systems in a commercial environment with n emphasis on HVAC
- Ability to communicate in a professional and candid manner with students, employees, and the public regarding sensitive, urgent and emergent matters.
- Ability to resolve problems in a timely fashion, using good reason and good judgment.
- Ability to analyze, de-escalate and diffuse difficult situations.
- Ability to adapt to changing concerns and needs of the campus environment.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of industry safety and security standards and how to apply these directly to institutional needs.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft office products, specifically Word and Excel. Ability to utilize the internet for research and investigative purposes. Database management experience preferred.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to be on call and respond to emergencies during non-duty hours, and report for duty during inclement weather as an “Essential Employee.” Incumbent must agree in writing to this provision.
- As this position is classified” protective service” in nature, the incumbent must be willing to submit to an initial and random drug screening while employed in this role by Blue Ridge CTC.
