Auto Body Technician

Overview

The Auto Body Technician is responsible for repairing damaged vehicle body parts in accordance with company specifications, processes and time standards. The role analyzes, assesses and fixes damaged vehicles and repairs, replaces and refinishes outer body parts. The technician also fixes internal automotive structures as needed.

• Repairs vehicles per estimate and established standards.
• Prepares vehicles for body repair work and restores bodywork to its original condition, including removing damaged parts and installing replacement parts using specialized tools to repair damage and realign structural components.
• Communicates with management regarding any additional repairs that may be needed and notifies management of any difficulties or problems that may affect quality or completion time.
• Maintains tools and equipment in good working order and operates all tools and equipment safely. Keeps the work area organized, clean and free of safety hazards.
• Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including eye protection.
• Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles, depending on schedule and area of expertise.
• Understands, stays informed about, and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect body shop operations (e.g., hazardous waste disposal).

• Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Solid working knowledge of processes, techniques and materials used in repairing automotive equipment with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in collision repair.
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle structure to remove and replace damaged components (e.g., doors, windscreens, fenders).
• Demonstrated commitment to safety precautions required in performing the work.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Physical capacity to lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally over 70 pounds.
• Demonstrated agility, balance, coordination when climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and working in tight or precarious conditions.
• Strong arm, hand and finger dexterity to reach, handle, and feel in confined spaces with limited visibility.
• Ability to work in a high-performance, fast-paced production environment.
