Pay Range: $17.19-$19.89 hourly depending on education.
Locations Covered:
Hendricks, Owen, and Morgan County

Position Summary:The Head Start Teacher Float serves as a permanent substitute teacher and provides high-quality early childhood education services throughout the Head Start service area. This position is not assigned to a consistent classroom and may be placed in different centers or classrooms based on program needs. The Teacher Float supports continuity of services, maintains high-quality learning environments, and ensures compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, state licensing regulations, and agency policies.

Classroom Support & Instruction- Provide classroom coverage throughout the assigned service area.
- Assume Lead Teacher responsibilities when assigned.
- Implement lesson plans and maintain continuity of instruction.
- Develop lesson plans for long-term assignments lasting more than two weeks in the same classroom.
- Maintain safe and engaging learning environments.
- Observe, document, and assess children's progress during placements lasting longer than two weeks.
- Engage families and support school readiness goals.
- Conduct Family Conferences and Home Visits during long-term placements of more than two weeks.
- Complete required reports and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, state licensing regulations, and agency policies.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Travel regularly between assigned sites within the service area.
- Employees serving in the Teacher Float role who are in good standing, meet position qualifications, and demonstrate satisfactory performance shall be given priority consideration for placement into vacant Lead Teacher positions before external candidates are recruited or hired.
To perform this position successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skill required. The individual must be able to successfully pass routine background checks.
Education/Certification/Licensure:- Associate's or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, equivalent coursework.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Reliable transportation required.
Required:
- 2-3 years related experience preferred.
Skills Required:
- Knowledge of child development and early childhood education best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and teaching teams.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic technology and documentation skills.
- Commitment to serving children and families with professionalism and respect.
- To accomplish the essential functions of the position, one must be physically able to operate or work with computers, calculators, reference books, computer software applications, phones, and other standard office equipment. The physical activities of the position include talking, reaching, grasping, light lifting, bending, squatting, and other repetitive motions.
