Position Summary
9‑month faculty member position in the Nursing program. Grant‑funded for an initial one‑year period, with potential renewal for up to four additional years based on grant funding and program needs.
Responsibilities- Mentor and collaborate with the clinical nursing adjunct.
- Conduct clinical and laboratory instruction as assigned.
- Participate in nursing faculty meetings.
- Maintain open communication with clinical partners.
- Maintain a record of student absences in classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences.
- Collaborate with Simulation staff at the partnered Simulation Center.
- Supervise and guide student learning in all educational settings.
- Engage in continuing education opportunities for professional development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Assist with program curriculum development, including concept‑based curriculum, learning management systems such as Canvas, and instructional technology.
- Participate in professional development conferences, workshops, meetings, and community advisory committees.
- Current Virginia registered nurse license (or multi‑state licensure privilege) with no disciplinary action that restricts practice.
- Minimum two years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse prior to employment.
- For clinical faculty, demonstrate licensure in the jurisdiction of student clinical practice, evidence of specialty area education/experience, and completion of a clinical orientation to the supervision site.
- For simulation instructors, demonstrate knowledge and skills in simulation methodology and ongoing professional development.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or an associate degree in nursing; active enrollment in a baccalaureate program in nursing.
- Graduate degree with a major in nursing preferred; active enrollment in a graduate program.
- Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
- Annual immunizations or titers (MMR, TB, hepatitis B, Varicella, influenza, COVID‑19) as required.
- Annual tuberculosis screening and complete yearly occupational health assessments.
- Pass a criminal background check and provide documentation of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Drug screen at hire and as required for clinical agency compliance.
- Maintain 15 hours of continuing education for licensure renewal every two years (50 % nursing education, 50 % clinical practice focus).
- Experience with concept‑based nursing curriculum and learning management systems such as Canvas.
- Knowledge of Virginia Board of Nursing regulations (18
VAC 90‑27‑10 et seq.). - Ability to perform duties in various instructional settings, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with COVID‑19 testing protocols as directed by clinical agencies.
Primarily day/weekday schedule, with evening and/or weekend hours as needed. No telework, no operation of a state vehicle, and no supervisory responsibilities.
