Position SummaryThe Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing tax compliance and planning engagements, managing client relationships, and leading and developing tax staff. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance client service, team leadership, and firm initiatives in a fast‑paced public accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations
- Lead tax planning, projections, and advisory engagements for clients
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building trusted advisory relationships
- Research complex tax issues and communicate recommendations clearly to clients and partners
- Oversee multiple engagements, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery
- Review work prepared by Seniors and Associates and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback
- Manage IRS and state audits, notices, and correspondence
- Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and workflow planning during tax season
- Collaborate with partners on client strategy, process improvements, and firm initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA license required
- 6–10+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Strong technical knowledge of individual and business taxation
- Prior experience managing and reviewing tax engagements
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff
- Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Experience with multi‑state and complex tax matters
- Exposure to high‑net‑worth individuals and closely held entities
- Prior client relationship management experience
