This position follows a hybrid work model, with the expectation to be onsite at our Point of Rocks, MD location up to three (3) days per week, or as determined by your manager based on team and business needs. The remaining days may be worked remotely.
Job SummaryResponsible for applying GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and sound accounting judgment to support accurate financial reporting and effective accounting controls. Independently manages assigned areas of the month-end close process, prepares and analyzes financial information, and maintains audit-ready documentation. Partners with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting matters, improve processes, and support the Company's financial objectives.
Essential Functions- Independently own assigned components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring deadlines are met and issues are proactively identified and resolved.
- Prepare, analyze, and reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts, researching and resolving reconciling items.
- Prepare and maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready work papers that clearly support account balances, reconciliations, journal entries, and accounting conclusions for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries, ensuring accounting treatment is consistent with GAAP and company policy.
- Prepare required financial statements and special reports, monitor inputs, and ensure timely completion.
- Identify, investigate, document, and communicate significant financial variances and business trends.
- Conduct job cost reviews with project managers.
- Prepare reports to local, state, and federal agencies in accordance with regulations, to include annual reports and government census.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to automate processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and strengthen internal controls.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to staff accountants and other team members while serving as a resource for accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain a working relationship with outside auditors and other consultants.
- Maintain professional communication and collaboration with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Collaborate with operations, project managers, finance, tax, payroll, and other business functions to resolve accounting matters and support financial reporting objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- Three (3) years previous general ledger accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles, economic principles, applicable laws, codes and regulations.
- Evaluate accounting transactions and apply GAAP and company accounting policies to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and documentation of conclusions.
- Knowledge of financial systems, budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Effective communication skills.
- Maintains strong attention to detail and ability to create professional, clear work papers.
- Ability to multi-task in a deadline driven environment.
- Ability to independently manage priorities, meet deadlines, and make routine accounting decisions.
- Computer skills to include MS Excel and Word.
- Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
