Billing & Collections Specialist (Construction)
Location: Capitol Heights, MD
Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 + Bonus Potential

A well-established and highly respected commercial construction manufacturer is seeking a Billing & Collections Specialist to join its accounting team in Capitol Heights, MD. For nearly 50 years, this organization has partnered with leading general contractors, architects, and developers to deliver complex, high-end commercial interior projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The company is known for its craftsmanship, investment in technology, and commitment to delivering projects on time and at the highest level of quality.
The organization has recently expanded into a state-of-the-art 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and continues to experience significant growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with construction accounts receivable, AIA billing, and collections experience who wants to play a critical role in cash flow management while working closely with project managers and leadership.
What You'll Be DoingAs the Billing & Collections Specialist, you will own the billing and collection process for commercial construction projects from start to finish.
Accounts Receivable & Billing- Prepare and submit monthly AIA pay applications and progress billings
- Process billing through client portals such as Procore, Textura, and related systems
- Track contract values, change orders, retainage, and stored materials
- Monitor customer payments and properly apply cash receipts
- Reconcile AR activity and assist with month-end close processes
- Coordinate billing adjustments and resolve discrepancies with project teams
- Follow up on outstanding receivables and proactively drive collections efforts
- Maintain communication with customers and general contractors regarding payment status
- Investigate and resolve billing disputes
- Escalate collection concerns and recommend solutions to improve cash flow
- Provide AR aging analysis and collection updates to leadership
- Process and manage lien waivers and supporting documentation
- Support compliance requirements including certificates of insurance and contract documentation
- Review construction contracts for billing terms and retainage requirements
- Assist with job cost reporting and project financial tracking
- Maintain organized project billing and collection records
- Experience in construction accounts receivable, billing, and collections
- Hands-on experience with AIA billing and progress draws
- Understanding of retainage, lien waivers, and construction contract requirements
- Experience with construction software such as Sage, Foundations, Star Builder, Procore, Textura, or similar platforms
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Current Notary Public certification or willingness to obtain
