About the Position

This position will perform entry‑level professional and administrative staff work which will provide important assistance within the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Unit and Permit Navigator Program within DPIE. The role will respond to Third Party Review inquiries and handle the required paperwork for the approval and discipline of program participants. Additionally, the position will handle overflow requests for the Permit Navigator Program.

the Agency

The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection, and enforcement, comprise DPIE. The Mission of DPIE is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning, and property standards codes.

of Work
  • Provides administrative support and assistance to the Third‑Party Reviewer and Permit Navigator Program.
  • Monitors and evaluates requests for information from departments/agencies to ensure timely responses to requests using knowledge of procedures and interpersonal skills.
  • Writes and prepares documentation for final approval and remarks, correspondence for the supervisor and/or designee.
  • Drafts and prepares non‑routine letters, memoranda, narrative reports, messages for use in printed publications, and other correspondence for signature of the supervisor and/or designee.
  • Performs routine duties to relieve supervisor work in completion of special projects (e.g., budget reviews, resolutions, and programs) as directed by supervisor and/or designee.
  • Prepares and completes special projects and assignments on an ongoing basis to keep the supervisor and/or designee informed using acquired planning, coordination, and organizational techniques.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Liberal Arts, one of the Social Sciences, or Public or Business Administration; or a field closely related to the assignment/functional area.

Experience:

Some experience in secretarial and general clerical work or related functional area.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel – advanced), Outlook, PDF tools, Project Dox, and Power BI.
  • Experience with audit support, data entry, and records management.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers and the public.
Conditions of Employment
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
  • Successfully pass pre‑employment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non‑standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
