This key position fulfills critical functions for the Talbot County Department of Social Services by performing agency and Director administrative support functions, and duties related to risk prevention and mitigation, information technology, communication and outreach, finance, and personnel.
Position Duties- Manages activities of Director’s office.
- Administrative, Service, FIA, CS, and LGA procedures.
- Maintains and files confidential records.
- Works closely with Director to plan regular executive team, management team, and all staff meeting agendas.
- Attends and takes minutes for Executive & Management Team meetings where policy and procedures are formulated, budget is developed and reviewed, and personnel issues may be discussed.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
- Applicants may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience, up to two years.
- Applicants may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree for the required experience.
- Applicants may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the independent judgment and analysis of complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations, or operational programs, with recommendations for improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience in an Administrative Support role at the Executive Level.
- One year of experience with Google Workspace (G‑Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
- One year of experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or MS Teams.
- One year of experience with SailPoint, Workday, and the State of Maryland Financial Management Information Systems (FMIS).
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Such employees must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
Benefits- Personal Leave – new State employees are awarded six personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).

- Parental Leave – up to sixty days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
