POSITION

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, coordinates Fire and Rescue payroll processing. Maintains documents and records according to Department and County policy as well as state and federal standards. Responsible for all editing, reviewing, and acceptance to the payroll interface of the Department of Fire and Rescue (DFRS) payroll system, ensure and oversee the process updates to ensure compliance with overtime in all union agreements, review file maintenance and ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of various payroll accounts is completed.

DESCRIPTION

Performs intermediate professional level administrative work, which may include supervisory responsibility, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work includes administrative support of a functional program and professional level analysis and coordination of functional office programs and activities.

Starting Salary Range

$77,422 – $82,164

Works under general supervision from the Assistant Fire Chief of the Administrative Services Bureau.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises Payroll Department staff, including training, approving leave, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Oversees daily operations of the payroll Division of the Fire Department.
  • Collaborates effectively with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.
  • Performs all essential job functions accurately and efficiently.
  • Provides continuous training to field personnel on the proper use of payroll programs.
  • Verifies and maintains necessary payroll profile data (straight time, overtime, premium pay, work schedules, etc.) and ensures that any changes are communicated to the appropriate Department bureaus and County departments.
  • Coordinates and participates in payroll audits to ensure timely completion.
  • Develops and prepares payroll-related projections and historical reports.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of payroll processing.
  • Reviews all Department-specific union agreements for FLSA overtime and specialty pay requirements and ensures correct implementation.
  • Tracks trends, developments, and new technology in payroll.
  • Assists with managing the implementation and integration of other major systems relevant to payroll.
  • Run payroll reports and queries to validate accurate payments for employees and departmental payroll changes.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years related experience or equivalent education and experience.
