Position Overview

Ingredion is hiring a R&D Senior Food Engineer to scale and commercialize food ingredient technologies. This critical role will lead process development from benchtop through manufacturing, delivering high‑impact, customer‑driven solutions.

Location: White Marsh, MD
Workplace Type: Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Applications and Development, Customized Solutions

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experimental protocols on bench, pilot, and full‑scale processes; verify operating conditions and validate customer control.
  • Manage cross‑functional projects related to processes and products to manufacture new solutions.
  • Support internal and external manufacturing, including commercialization of new R&D products.
  • Manage the Pilot Plant and all applicable equipment to ensure GMP policies and procedures are implemented, practiced, and documented.
  • Analyze and resolve processing‑related problems that arise in manufacturing jointly with operations and quality.
  • Define process equipment requirements; design/ select bench, pilot, and full‑scale processing equipment.
  • Document all equipment process activities and prepare written reports and formal training for effective transfer to manufacturing.
  • Present ideas and results effectively in cross‑functional team settings and to senior management.
  • Act as subject matter expert on processing topics for team members and external customers.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Food or Chemical Engineering with significant process design and scale‑up experience.
  • Extensive manufacturing experience; ability to troubleshoot and work collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with food‑grade manufacturing processes: spray drying, fluidized bed agglomeration, centrifugation, horizontal and vertical blending, homogenization, pasteurization (batch & continuous), and high‑shear mixing.
  • Preferred: experience generating new hydrocolloid technologies.
  • Experience with financial evaluation of new processes and equipment up to $1M.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP, Salesforce, and formulation management systems.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (Minitab) and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.
Additional Requirements

This position will be based at the White Marsh location but will also spend significant time at the Belcamp manufacturing site. Additional travel may be required (10‑15%).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit, and is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
