Job Description

Supervise all aspects of an asphalt paving crew including, scheduling, contract trucking, equipment, quality, cost, safety, and snow removal in the winter months.

This position requires a person who has the ability to work evenings, holidays, weekends, and on-call for snow or other emergency events. This position will be expected to plan, organize, and assign all crew members daily work assignments with an emphasis on safety, quality and production.

Plan out your projects to keep them cost effective and running efficiently with a detailed plan for the crew.

Inspects assets to determine maintenance needs, condition, and deficiencies and estimates remaining service life of asset.

Supervises assigned crews with daily work assignments which includes providing direction to safely manage jobsite work zones and maintain proper traffic control. Assumes the responsibility as the ATSSA certified Traffic Control Supervisor on each jobsite, acquiring utility locates, ensuring safety rules are followed, and monitoring project performance while ensuring the proper repair, maintenance, and construction activity is completed in accordance with designated specifications.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving, Seal Coating, patchwork, material, repair, and maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best construction practices.
  • Knowledge of the operation of heavy highway construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, survey skills, and engineering techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, engineering drawings, and blueprints relative to road and bridge construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor as required.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise personnel and equipment physically spread over a large geographical area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with contractors, supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and other employees.
  • Ability to hold self and others accountable to a high standard of behavior.
  • Ability to manage all aspects of large projects.
  • Ability to perform the duties of a Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) as defined by industry standards.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Bilingual is not required but helpful.
  • Must have a DOT Physical and pass a Drug Screen.
