The Construction Superintendent manages on-site operations from the project trailer, coordinates subcontractors, enforces safety and quality procedures, and provides clear, consistent communication and reporting to the broader project team. This position offers a strong career path for experienced crew leads and forepersons looking to advance into a superintendent role and gain long-term experience in the growing solar industry.
Responsibilities
+ Manage all on-site construction activities for solar projects, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules.
+ Coordinate daily operations from the site trailer, including planning tasks, sequencing work, and overseeing multiple subcontractor crews in civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
+ Oversee and manage subcontractors and sub-vendors on site, working closely with their forepersons to ensure work is completed according to scope, quality standards, and timelines.
+ Conduct and oversee quality control activities, including performing quality inspections and verifying that all work complies with construction drawings, specifications, and company standards.
+ Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA requirements and company safety policies, and actively promote a strong safety culture on site.
+ Review, interpret, and verify construction drawings and plans (civil, electrical, and mechanical) to ensure all work is executed according to design and technical specifications.
+ Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for the project team, providing regular updates on progress, issues, and risks, and escalating concerns as needed.
+ Prepare and submit daily reports to the construction manager or project manager, documenting progress, safety observations, manpower, equipment, and any notable events or delays.
+ Coordinate work activities among various trades and subcontractors to avoid conflicts, minimize downtime, and maintain efficient workflow on the job site.
+ Manage on-site inventory, deliveries, and material handling, ensuring materials are received, documented, stored properly, and available when needed for construction activities.
+ Capture photographs of construction progress and site conditions, and submit them as part of daily or periodic reporting to the project management team.
+ Perform and support inspections as required, including internal quality checks and coordination with external inspectors, engineers, or authorities.
+ Document and track information received from other contractors, engineers, and stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely communication of this information to the appropriate team members.
+ Use Procore and other project management tools to track documentation, RFIs, drawings, and reports, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
+ Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create and maintain reports, logs, presentations, and other project-related documentation.
+ Operate and manage work using Apple iPads or similar devices for field documentation, drawings, and communication.
+ Support and enforce site-specific stormwater and environmental compliance requirements as they relate to construction activities.
+ Demonstrate strong leadership on site by setting expectations, resolving conflicts, making timely decisions, and motivating crews to achieve project goals.
+ Identify and address field issues promptly, using problem-solving skills to keep the project moving forward while maintaining safety and quality.
+ Be consistently present on site during construction hours, often serving as the first person to arrive and the last person to leave, to ensure thorough oversight of all activities.
Essential Skills
+ Proven experience in construction, with strong background in civil, electrical, and mechanical aspects of solar construction.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee construction crews and subcontractors in a field environment.
+ Strong experience working on solar construction projects, including rooftop or ground-mounted systems.
