Summary
The Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC Children’s Theatre Production Company (CTPC) is seeking music directors for the upcoming summer 2026 CTPC Jr season:
Shrek Jr (June 22 – July 17) and Mary Poppins Jr (July 20 – August 14), both for grades 3‑8. Each camp day will include musical theatre preparatory classes, auditions, rehearsals, and the final product of a full production. CTPC also incorporates swimming and field trips.
The music director will work alongside the show director, production assistants, and counselors to run rehearsals, review material, work backstage for the production, and perform any other duties assigned in relation to the show. The music director must maintain CTPC’s high standards with the production’s music and interact professionally with all creative staff members and appointed counselors. The ideal candidate is an arts education professional who is prepared and eager to be a role model within their field, for the Center of Arts & Culture, and the JCC as a whole.
CommitmentHours are from 9:30 AM – 4:45 PM daily. Must commit to the entire show for either June 22 – July 17 (Shrek Jr) or July 20 – August 14 (Mary Poppins Jr). Must attend all rehearsals and meetings for the duration of the musical, including pre‑production, the rehearsal process, tech, shows, and post‑production. Reliable transportation and local housing are required.
CoreResponsibilities
- Attend and supply all musical accompaniment and instruction for all classes, rehearsals, and performances.
- Responsible for teaching and upholding the integrity of all vocal and instrumental components within the CTPC programming.
- Assist young performers, as individuals or as a group, with songs and learning vocal parts.
- Be available to teach Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings.
- Attend all production meetings, special events, and trainings required.
- Understand all safety procedures of the JCC and be able to lead participants in the event of an emergency.
- Adhere to the dress code requirements and meet all JCC standards for professionalism in conduct and appearance; wear appropriate clothing, shoes, and a JCC issued nametag or name badge.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience teaching and/or musical directing (experience with school‑aged students preferred).
- Experience directing (preferably several) musical theatre productions is preferred.
- Extensive experience working with differing levels of musicianship, age groups, and learning abilities.
- Ability to plan, write, and execute a well‑thought‑out, age‑appropriate curriculum for preparatory musical theatre classes.
- Excell in classroom management; commands a room while remaining patient and inclusive to all students in accordance with CTPC values.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with peers and colleagues, enjoys working on a team, and can be flexible.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the artistic team and, if necessary, with CTPC families.
- Experience transposing music, if deemed necessary, to accommodate the ranges and talents of students is preferred.
- Experience teaching individual voice lessons is a plus.
The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, using a computer, talking, dancing, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting or moving up to 20 pounds.
