Position: Habimah/CTPC Counselor 2026
Location: Owings Mills

SUMMARY

This summer, the Arts and Culture department within JCamps will be offering two theatre arts camps:
Habimah Arts Camp, a multi‑disciplinary camp for children in grades 1‑4, and Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC), which offers additional performance‑production‑based camps for grades 3‑8. Each camp day includes classes from Baltimore’s finest artists and instructors, along with swimming, outdoor activity, and field trips. Habimah counselors assist teaching artists and help ensure a successful showcase for performers and audience members.

CTPC counselors work with the director to run rehearsals, review material, manage backstage duties, and perform additional stage‑management responsibilities for the two upcoming productions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Supervising campers and keeping them on schedule, entertained, and safe.
  • Work effectively with the camp team to provide age‑appropriate camp activities and lead groups of campers in these activities and exercises.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
    • Provide daily care of each camper within your supervision, including recognition of personal health needs.
    • Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by the Health Care Manager.
    • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with the camp health manager and/or camp director when appropriate.
    • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance; report repairs needed promptly to the camp director.
  • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
    • Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
    • Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp.
  • Participate in other JCamps events as needed.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, and special events.
  • Additional responsibilities for those who also act as stage manager:
    • Attend all production meetings, including pre‑production, during, and post‑production.
    • Manage rehearsals under the Director’s supervision and guidance.
    • Command a rehearsal when needed, remaining patient and inclusive to all students as per the JCC and CTPC values.
    • Send out rehearsal reports to the creative team and alert the team when something needs to be addressed immediately.
    • Initiate setup/teardown of rehearsal space, record blocking, reset props, call lights, sound, and backstage assignments during technics and shows.
    • Ensure the event is executed within the vision of all artists involved.
    • Call the show and oversee the cast and crew during the run of the event.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the director.

WHO YOU ARE
  • Several years of experience as a camp counselor or related experience with children ages 6‑13.
  • Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to be flexible.
  • Comfortable with Jewish culture.
  • Must be graduating high school in 2026, in college, or a college graduate.
  • Experience or interest in performing and/or visual arts. Stage‑management candidates must have 1+ year in stage‑management or comparable experience.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is usually fast‑paced. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff as well as members, other agency staff, community leaders, vendors, and partners. The workspace may be noisy at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

COMMITMENT

Hours are from 8:00 AM–4:45 PM daily, preferred entire camp commitment from June 22nd – August 14th. Additional options for early drop‑off and late pickup are available for additional compensation. Extension with pre‑camp and post‑camp weeks are also available. Required…
