Schedule:
35 hours per week
A vacancy exists in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Definition Of ResponsibilityUnder general supervision of a licensed dentist, practices dental hygiene and assists in public health dentistry programs.
Examples of Essential Duties- Performs preliminary dental examinations of patients and records findings.
- Provides initial review of patient medical records.
- Performs prophylactic and preventive treatments prior to examination of patient by dentist.
- Sets up and closes out clinic rooms in accordance with established regulations.
- Takes radiographs and maintains dental records and charts.
- Provides oral hygiene instruction to patients on an individual basis.
- Assists in presenting oral hygiene instruction before groups.
Performs other related duties as required.

Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association with an associate in arts degree in dental hygiene

Two years experience in direct dental patient care.
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid license to practice dental hygiene issued by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners is required at the time of appointment. Possession of an approved CPR certification is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver s license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver s license is required at the time of appointment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification includes the performance of physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, and the operation of dental instruments. Incumbents may be required to travel to sites throughout Baltimore County. Duties may expose incumbents to various bio-medical hazards.
Medical Examination and Employment Background InvestigationApplicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
