Position SummaryThe Preschool Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool-aged children, creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment, and leading classroom activities that promote children’s learning and growth. The Lead Teacher also supervises and mentors assistant teachers, ensures compliance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care regulations, and communicates regularly with families and staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans, activities, and learning experiences in line with state early learning standards.
Supervise and guide assistant teachers to ensure a cohesive and effective classroom team.
Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing classroom environment compliant with MSDE licensing standards.
Observe, document, and assess each child’s progress and development.
Build strong, positive relationships with children, families, and staff through effective communication and collaboration.
Maintain accurate records including attendance, incident reports, assessment documentation, and curriculum plans.
Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
Minimum QualificationsMust meet Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care lead teacher requirements (such as 90-Hour Preschool Teacher Certification or higher).
High school diploma or GED required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience working with preschool-aged children; previous classroom lead experience preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
