Position Summary:
The Department of English at Washington Adventist University is seeking candidates to expand its pool of adjunct faculty teaching day and evening classes. Depending on the needs of the incoming freshman class and enrollment numbers at the beginning Spring Semester, the department may have a need for adjunct instructors to teach Basic English (ENGL 050), Composition Lab (ENGL 101A), Composition (ENGL 101), and/or Research and Literature (ENGL 102).
Applications may be reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not automatically accepted to teach at Washington Adventist University. Decisions to hire applicants are made at the discretion of the department.
Primary Duties:
* Teach pertinent course content for majors and non-majors using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery that promote learning and the development of relevant skills.
* Prepare a daily schedule for the syllabus and develop course and lesson plans.
* Meet for at least one conference with each student in assigned class.
* Attend up to three composition program meetings during the semester.
* Attend a play with assigned class (ticket provided).
Qualifications:
* Master's degree from an accredited university and successful teaching record with strong emphasis on research writing in English or related field preferred.
* Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population of students both in and outside the classroom.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Knowledge of the university's philosophy and mission and commitment to it.
