Position Summary

Position Summary: To provide students with foundational knowledge and skills that support careers and/or post‑secondary opportunities in hospitality, culinary arts, and customer service–focused industries.

Education, Certification, and Experience
  • Have a valid teacher’s certificate/license or be eligible under the licensure process for Professional and Technical Education Teachers (7‑12), Family and Consumer Sciences (7‑12), Business (7‑12), and Marketing (7‑12), COMAR 13A.12.03.
  • Possess and maintain Serv Safe Food Handler and Manager Certifications.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license. The chosen candidate will be required to provide Calvert County Public Schools with a current copy of his/her Maryland driving record prior to the start of employment.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety practices aligned to restaurant and hospitality industry expectations.
  • General understanding of hospitality and food service operations, including customer service, food preparation, and workplace organization.
  • Ability to safely use standard kitchen tools and equipment in an instructional setting.
  • Ability to follow and teach basic recipes, procedures, and organizational systems used in food service and hospitality environments.
  • Understanding of common food products and proper handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge of foundational hospitality business practices, including basic cost control, inventory awareness, pricing, and introductory management concepts relevant to food service and hospitality operations.
  • Awareness of hospitality industry practices, including teamwork, professionalism, and guest service expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, staff, and community members.
  • Understanding of and ability to build positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain a Pro Start‑aligned hospitality and culinary program that introduces students to foundational skills in food service, customer service, and hospitality operations.
  • Develop, select, and adapt instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Prepare students for entry‑level employment and further education in hospitality, culinary, tourism, and related fields.
  • Support students in earning industry‑recognised credentials, such as food safety certifications, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and skill development.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and organised kitchen and classroom environment that supports hands‑on learning.
  • Monitor and support student participation in work‑based learning experiences and apprenticeship placements, including building partnerships with local businesses, coordinating placements, and ensuring alignment to programme goals and industry expectations.
  • Establish individual student goals and plans for student placements in registered apprenticeship and work‑based learning experiences, working with employers/community partners and in accordance with Department of Labor registered apprenticeship standards where appropriate.
  • Work with Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members to ensure the programme reflects current industry practices.
  • Identify materials and equipment needed to support effective instruction and maintain an up‑to‑date learning environment.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring proper use, care, and storage.
